A 2025 Toyota recall traced frozen rear-camera images to software timing

An October 2025 filing covered more than one million potentially affected Toyota, Lexus and Subaru vehicles; a later report recorded recall progress.

Toyota reported a recall to NHTSA on October 30, 2025 involving 1,024,407 potentially affected vehicles because a rearview-camera image could freeze or fail to display. The agency’s acknowledgment lists certain 2022–2026 Toyota and Lexus models and 2023–2025 Subaru Solterras; being in a model-year range alone does not prove a specific car is affected. [1]

Investigators connected the problem to the parking-assist computer’s software. Toyota’s filing describes two different circumstances: an interruption in the image-drawing process could freeze an image, while abnormal camera alignment data after a power interruption could prevent the image appearing on a later start. [2]

The practical safety issue is that a driver may not have the expected view behind the vehicle when reversing. Toyota’s filing said a dealer would update the parking-assist computer software at no cost to owners of involved Toyota and Lexus vehicles. [2]

In its April 20, 2026 quarterly report, Toyota listed 671,496 vehicles under the Total Remedied category, out of a recall population of 1,024,407. That category includes vehicles inspected without needing a remedy or returned to inventory, as well as those remedied. This historical snapshot cannot establish a particular vehicle’s status or the current total. [3]

Owners can check their individual vehicle identification number through NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask their manufacturer or dealer about campaign 25V744. The agency notes that VIN search shows unrepaired recalls for participating manufacturers and that some recently announced campaigns may take time to identify every affected vehicle. [4]
