The Election Assistance Commission held its Board of Advisors annual meeting in Washington on April 28 and 29, 2026. Its May 5 account placed that gathering after separate Chicago meetings of the Standards Board and Local Leadership Council, attended by about 150 state and local election officials. The 35-member advisory board draws from stakeholder associations, federal agencies and Congress. [1]

Agency commissioners and staff discussed voting-system testing and certification, including proposed Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.1 and the Election Supporting Technology Evaluation Program. Other subjects included changes to the Election Administration and Voting Survey, additional training opportunities and distribution of Help America Vote Act grants. Representatives from the FBI, Postal Service and Postal Inspection Service also answered Standards Board questions. [1]

The account recorded leadership elections as well as policy discussions. Christine Walker, Jackson County, Oregon, clerk, became Board of Advisors executive-committee chair; Eric Fey was named chair-elect and Lisa Marra secretary. For the Standards Board, Jamie Shew became chair, Dwight Shellman vice chair and Kathy Placencia secretary. The EAC described that board as comprising 55 state and 55 local election officials. [1]
