Gemini’s car update brings a new privacy choice to the dashboard
Google announced access to personal app data for eligible drivers, with different rollout timing for phone projection and built-in systems.

On October 20, 2026, Google announced that Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature was beginning to roll out on Android Auto. Google said cars with Google built-in would follow in the coming months. [1]
With permission, the feature can use information from connected Google apps such as Gmail and Calendar to answer a driver’s questions. Google says existing settings on a phone carry into Android Auto; availability depends on eligibility and location. [1]
Google’s help instructions distinguish Android Auto, which connects a phone, from vehicles with Google built-in. Its guide lists a compatible phone and vehicle among Android Auto requirements and warns that Gemini may give inaccurate information. [2]
People can choose which Google apps to connect through Gemini’s Connected Apps settings, according to Google’s support documentation. A driver should consider which information is connected and who might hear an answer in the cabin. [3]
The personal-data feature is a later addition to the car assistant: Google had already announced Gemini’s rollout on Android Auto in November 2025. Neither announcement establishes that a particular car or account has received the newer feature. [4]
