The Netherlands committed more than €2.4 million over four years to UNESCO’s media programmes on July 15. About €1.8 million was designated for the International Programme for the Development of Communication; the remainder was for two programmes, including the Global Media Defence Fund. [1]

UNESCO’s fund reference describes competitive partnerships with nonprofit organisations supporting legal assistance, investigations against impunity and strategic litigation. Funding travels through projects; a government pledge does not automatically entitle an individual journalist to payment. [2]

The July announcement recorded a commitment, not proof that new money was spent or cases resolved. Assessing effects requires project-level evidence beyond the signing announcement. [1]
