Mississippi’s October 26 election reminder sets two deadlines for mailed absentee ballots: a November 3 postmark and November 10 receipt by circuit clerks. Its separate in-person absentee deadline is October 31. These dates apply to Mississippi. [1]

The distinction survived a federal challenge. On June 29, the Supreme Court’s Watson ruling held that federal election-day statutes did not preempt Mississippi’s later receipt window for timely postmarked absentee ballots. The Court reversed the Fifth Circuit. [2]

The majority separated making an electoral choice from transporting its record. Its decision did not require every state to accept late-arriving ballots or authorize votes cast after election day. [2]

The state’s current notice directs voters to their circuit clerk or its address-based My Election Day portal for polling information. A receipt deadline is therefore only one part of checking the correct local instructions. [1]
