Ahead of Thanksgiving, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a cooking-safety reminder on November 19, 2025. The agency identified the holiday as a period when cooking fires rise and emphasized remaining with food as it cooks. [1]

Its notice advised keeping children and pets at least three feet from the cooking area, moving flammable items away from the stovetop and turning pot handles inward. Those measures address the space around a hot pan as well as the person operating the stove. [1]

For a grease fire in a pan, CPSC said to cover it with a lid and turn off the burner, and never to use water. The advisory also warned against overfilling or overheating turkey fryers and placing them near the house, on a deck or in a garage. [1]

The release closed with a reminder about working smoke alarms on each level, outside sleeping areas and inside bedrooms. This archive summarizes the dated agency notice; the accompanying appliance photograph is contextual and does not establish that any particular kitchen or product has been inspected. [1]
