The Library of Congress announced six Koussevitzky commissions on July 21, 2026, pairing composers with the organizations intended to premiere their new works. The pairing is central to the program: it connects writing music with a group committed to bringing it before listeners, rather than recognizing only a composition already completed. [1]

The projects span different performing forces. Reinaldo Moya was paired with Chiarina Chamber Players, Peter S. Shin with the Del Sol String Quartet, and Errollyn Wallen with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for a concerto for orchestra. These were announced commissions; this review did not establish that their premieres had subsequently occurred. [1]

The institutional history reaches back to Serge Koussevitzky's foundation in 1942 and its transfer of operations to the Library in 1949. Commissioned manuscripts became part of the Library's music collections. That creates a second audience beyond a premiere: researchers can study the written work as part of a continuing archive. [1]

The foundation's procedure revised in September 2026 explains the next cycle, not the terms of an individual July award. Performing organizations from any country may propose composers of any nationality. For 2027, chamber-work fees range from $10,000 to $15,000; symphonic support may reach $20,000, with the organization supplying a match of at least half the foundation's contribution. [2]

The current instructions also require a firm commitment to premiere a work within two years after receiving the completed score. They call for deposit of the composer's manuscript, or a hard-copy computer score, in the Library, and recommend a copyright notice. Archive custody therefore should not be mistaken for permission to publish or perform the music freely. [2]

For groups considering that later round, the stated deadline is January 15, 2027. Its performance period cannot begin before September 2027. These are next-cycle dates, not verified 2026 premieres. [2]
