The Library of Congress announced a collaboration with the national tour of The Sound of Music on February 10, 2026, with a traveling and virtual display of material from its performing-arts collections. Called Inside the Vault, the project links the musical’s score to the documents behind its creation. [1]
The display uses facsimiles of music and lyric sketches, correspondence and other papers from the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II collections. The February announcement described plans to work with local schools and libraries before tour engagements and place the display in theater lobbies during the run. [1]
A March 25 Library update added detail about the curatorial approach. Senior music reference specialist Cait Miller selected materials explaining how songs developed, how stage and film versions differed, and how Sister Gregory, a Dominican nun and theater professor, advised the creative team on depicting religious life. [2]
The focus included six songs, among them My Favorite Things, Edelweiss and Do-Re-Mi. The March account said the North American tour was scheduled through June 2027 and identified additional online resources. It also said the underlying materials were available for research in the Library’s Performing Arts Reading Room. [2]
