On October 24, 2026, the Diwali in London Committee cancelled the following day’s Trafalgar Square celebration. It attributed the decision to expert safety advice: forecast storms on Saturday threatened preparations and site teams. The announcement concerned the build before Sunday’s public event; it did not report measured storm damage. [1]

The Greater London Authority’s retained program shows what had been planned: free entry without booking, a 1–7 p.m. schedule, performances, children’s activities and dance workshops. Its cancellation update said other ways to support celebrations were being considered. That wording offered no confirmed replacement event or new date. [2]

The organising structure reaches beyond one day’s program. The committee describes 13 volunteer organisations from Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities and more than two decades of work in the square. One member takes the chair each year; NHSF (UK) held it in 2026. The event is a partnership with the Mayor of London. That rotating structure identifies community organisers alongside the public authority. [3]
