India won its first women’s ODI Cricket World Cup on November 2, 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. India made 298 for seven; South Africa, chasing 299, was bowled out for 246. The result converted a home tournament into a first title. [1]

Shafali Verma’s 87 and Deepti Sharma’s 58 helped build India’s total. In the chase, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 101, while Sharma finished with five wickets for 39. Verma also removed Sune Luus and Marizanne Kapp in successive overs. Those contributions show why the match turned on more than the highest individual batting score. [1]

South Africa’s resistance continued beyond 200, but the innings ended at 246 after reaching 209 for five. India’s win therefore depended on taking the remaining wickets while defending its total. The ICC account identifies Sharma’s dismissal of Annerie Dercksen as the start of that late collapse. [1]

The trophy determined a larger announced team award: US$4.48 million for the champions, against US$1.32 million in 2022. Runners-up were assigned US$2.24 million, up from US$600,000. The overall pool rose from US$3.5 million to US$13.88 million. Those are scheduled team prizes, not evidence of individual players’ receipts. [2]

Losing semifinalists were assigned US$1.12 million each, every group-stage participant US$250,000, and each group-stage win US$34,314. The documented change is the competition’s payment structure; larger international prizes do not establish equal earnings throughout women’s cricket. [2]

The ICC’s September preview described an eight-team event across five venues in India and Sri Lanka and the women’s ODI World Cup’s first return to the subcontinent since 2013. It also announced an all-female panel of match officials, continuing the approach used for its senior global women’s events since 2023. [3]
