Scotch laminator recall made model checks and refund proof separate tasks
The October 2026 action involved TL1302Z machines, distinct from an older recall of a similar-looking Scotch laminator.

3M recalled about 53,634 Scotch TL1302Z thermal laminators on October 15, 2026. The firm reported 63 overheating, melting or smoking incidents, including five fires and minor property damage in one report. No injuries were reported. [1]
The model matters: an October 23, 2025 recall covered a different Scotch laminator, TL909-50, within a specific serial-number range. That notice described a roughly nine-inch slot and sales through Office Depot, Office Smart and School Specialty. Similar branding does not make the two recalls interchangeable. [2]
The newer TL1302Z has a roughly thirteen-inch slot and its model label underneath or on the packaging. CPSC listed Amazon sales from June 2024 through September 2026. Owners need the notice matching their model, rather than applying the older serial-number restriction. [1]
The older TL909-50 remedy also illustrates the work between a refund announcement and payment: owners had to submit a form, confirm inclusion and upload a photograph showing the cut, unplugged cord before a check would be mailed. [2]
For TL1302Z, CPSC instructed owners to stop use, unplug the machine and register with 3M, supplying a photograph of the cut cord. It listed 800-772-4337 and a remedy-complaint route. This review did not test the registration portal or verify refund completions. [1]
Disposal is another task. EPA’s electronics guidance advises checking state or community recycling facilities; it does not establish that any particular facility accepts laminators. Confirming local acceptance therefore remains separate from documenting the model-specific refund claim. [3]
