Santa Barbara Public Library’s October 5, 2026 notice introduced a tool collection of more than 40 items. Some tools were already borrowable; the full collection was promised for October 23. A launch party was scheduled for October 22, rather than documented as completed. [1]
Most Things loans last three weeks; some last one. Items must return to staff, avoiding book drops. Borrowers remain responsible for damage or loss. [2]
Access depends on the card. The library’s card reference distinguishes an eCard for digital resources from an All-Access card for physical borrowing. California residents can obtain a card; adult All-Access applicants need identification and address verification. An Internet Only card carries no borrowing privileges. [3]
The borrowing policy makes renewals conditional on nobody else reserving an item; most materials can renew up to three times. A notified hold must be collected within seven days. These rules make availability depend on other borrowers and pickup, rather than simply appearing in a catalogue. [4]
The guide, modified October 25, describes a larger tool collection as coming soon. Full rollout remains unconfirmed. [2]
