RTC announced on August 21, 2026, that Maryland Parkway’s RED LINE would replace Route 109 beginning August 23. It planned expanded service into downtown Las Vegas and the Medical District, while warning of traffic and service delays from unfinished work along four miles. [1]

An April 2024 federal announcement put grant support at $149.9 million for an estimated $378.1 million project. The planned 12.5-mile corridor linked downtown, UNLV and the airport, connecting with 25 other routes at Bonneville Transit Center and South Strip Transit Terminal. [2]

Dedicated lanes for 7.2 miles and signal priority in mixed traffic were the planned time-saving mechanisms. The federal release reported RTC’s 2024 forecast of about 20% shorter trips, not a result measured after the 2026 change. [2]

The August notice also announced Centennial Express service every 30 minutes between Bonneville and South Strip, with Resort Corridor back-of-house access. Airport and UNLV passengers were directed to connections through those terminals. That transfer instruction mattered to understanding the revised trip; it is not a verified current timetable. [1]

At an October 26 check, RTC’s project-update page said RED LINE service had begun August 23 and identified remaining roadway and utility work between Sahara Avenue and Russell Road. The page is undated: this is the operator’s follow-through account, not an independent on-street construction inspection. [3]

That account goes beyond an announcement but does not measure travel-time or reliability gains. RTC directed riders to service-change schedules and the rideRTC app. Readers planning a trip need current operating information; the historical notice alone cannot verify today’s frequencies or connections.
