NPS’s December 30, 2025, announcement set a January 5 start and mid-March 2026 completion target for $2 million of entrance-fee-funded Willow Beach Road work. The 3.7-mile plan would reuse ground asphalt as a base without widening the road. NPS planned to keep the marina and hatchery open, with weekday flagging and possible 15-minute delays. The timetable does not establish completion. [1]
The park’s separately published fee-funding reference says 80% of entrance fees stays locally. It describes spending on launch ramps, floating sanitation and navigation aids as well as educational resources. This funding mechanism connects visitor charges with maintenance of access infrastructure. [2]
A HABS history held by the Library of Congress places the access road’s construction around 1958, through shallow canyons from U.S. 93 to the Arizona shore. The route was built to reach the harbor and recreation facilities; maintaining it preserves that access function. [3]
