Death Valley National Park announced on October 8, 2026, that guided exterior tours would offer limited access to Scotty’s Castle while restoration continued. The schedule called for tours on most Saturdays and Sundays from October 10 through April 17, plus private weekday tours for small groups by request. [1]
The announcement assigned tours to NPS rangers and Death Valley Natural History Association guides, with tickets through the association. The estate in northern Death Valley is a 1920s Spanish Revival winter retreat built by Albert Johnson for himself and his wife, Bessie. [1]
A flash flood in October 2015 damaged buildings, roads, utilities and the historic landscape, closing the site. NPS said infrastructure repairs had progressed but identified more work ahead: the parking lot, historic Longshed and Gas Tank House were scheduled for a construction phase expected to start in 2027. [1]
The Gas Tank House was to become a small visitor contact station. Historic furnishings and museum collections would return before interior tours resumed. The park placed the earliest anticipated full reopening in November 2028, explicitly tying that forecast to project timelines rather than announcing completed restoration. [1]
