Lando Norris finished third in Abu Dhabi on December 7, 2025, securing his first F1 title. The FIA reported 423 points, two above race winner Max Verstappen. Oscar Piastri finished second, ending on 410 points. [1]

The FIA’s October 17, 2024 edition of the 2025 sporting regulations awards the title for the highest season points total. Its race scale gives 25 points for first, 18 for second and 15 for third. Race victory and the championship are separate results. [2]

The framework had changed before that season. Formula One’s October 17, 2024 account of the World Motor Sport Council decision announced removal of the fastest-lap bonus point for 2025. That establishes no hypothetical championship result under the former system. [3]

McLaren’s September 3, 2018 announcement supplies another timeline: Norris was its test and reserve driver when selected for a 2019 race seat. He had joined its young-driver programme in early 2017, with simulator work and testing preceding promotion. This describes his route into the team, without proving what produced the title. [4]
