Elena Rybakina beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the Australian Open final on January 31, 2026. The tournament’s analysis records recovery from 3-0 in the decider, despite fewer outright winners: 28 against Sabalenka’s 35. Rybakina served six aces. [1]
The International Tennis Federation’s 2026 rules explain the distinction: points form games, games form sets, and a best-of-three match requires two sets. Points can also be lost through consecutive service faults or an out-of-court return. Outright winners capture only part of that scoring process. [2]
The Open’s undated honour roll places the result in a rivalry. Sabalenka beat Rybakina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the 2023 final, retained the title in 2024, and lost to Madison Keys in 2025. Her four consecutive finals included opposite outcomes against Rybakina. Both finals went to three sets. [3]
