Brazil beat Portugal 3–0 on December 7, 2025 to win the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup in the Philippines. UEFA’s account recorded a Portugal side that had won five games and scored 37 goals before the final. Italy and Poland were making their first major finals appearances. The result established a first champion, while the wider field brought established powers and tournament newcomers to the same event. [1]

The competition was new, but its entry system had been built over several years. FIFA’s opening-day account traced it to a December 2022 Council decision and reported 79 national teams involved in qualifying for the 16-team finals. It counted six women’s futsal tournaments across the confederations, versus two in 2016. Qualifying participation and a place in the final field are different measures of access. [2]

Portugal’s Olympic committee supplied a link to an earlier international stage. Fifó, Leninha and Marta Teixeira, members of the 2025 silver-medal squad, had won Youth Olympic gold in Buenos Aires in 2018. A first senior FIFA World Cup therefore did not mean those players were new to international competition. That continuity identifies an athlete pathway; it does not establish which development policies caused the final result. [3]

CAF’s April 2025 guide shows one route into that field. It divided nine entrants into three groups and specified semifinal places for the winners and best runner-up. The guide assigned Africa’s two World Cup places to the finalists. Qualification therefore involved a regional bracket as well as a global final tournament. That guide described an earlier selection process, not an entry opportunity still open after the World Cup. [4]
