Team FIDE won the Women’s World Team Championship in Linares on November 23, 2025, beating Azerbaijan 3–1 and 2.5–1.5 in the final’s two matches. China took bronze. Polina Shuvalova finished with 9.5 points from ten games; her individual board award accompanied the team title, but used a different ranking system. [1]

The tournament regulations distinguish those measures. Four players compete per match, from a fixed roster order allowing two reserves. A knockout duel consists of two matches with colours reversed. If each team wins one, or both are drawn, aggregate board points do not decide advancement: blitz follows. Individual board medals instead depend on performance ratings and at least five games. [2]

The distinction mattered in Azerbaijan’s semifinal the previous day. Its two regular matches against Kazakhstan were drawn, before Azerbaijan won the four-game blitz match 3–1. That route explains why adding up ordinary game points alone cannot reconstruct the knockout bracket. Match results, tie-breaking games and individual medals describe different parts of the same championship. [3]
