NPS’s September 28 notice scheduled Alcatraz’s closure from October 26 through November 18, 2026, to replace two dock pilings. January’s piling failure and April’s strengthening work preceded the plan; the ferry concessioner funds repairs under its agreement. [1]

The park’s accessibility guide describes a quarter-mile route from the landing to the Cell House climbing 130 feet. It identifies a tram for visitors with mobility impairments. [2]

Ferry arrival and movement uphill therefore pose separate access questions. The guide also identifies assistive-listening devices at Pier 33 and an American Sign Language Cell House tour: physical access and communication access require different support. [2]
