Grand Canyon’s October 26, 2026 notice, updated October 29, reported reopening South Kaibab below The Tipoff and the River Trail after flood repairs. Bright Angel’s Mile-and-a-Half–Havasupai Gardens section reopened for hikers, with stock still excluded. Black and Silver bridges, Phantom Ranch and North Kaibab remained closed; three Bright Angel water stops were listed as off for winter. NPS warned of intermittent work closures. [1]

The August 29 flash flood had destroyed nearly all footbridges spanning Bright Angel Creek, NPS reported the next day. Their loss eliminated hiker crossings, while crews assessed damage to trails, utilities and facilities. [2]

Metal structures and debris also prompted a Colorado River traffic closure in that initial response. Recovery therefore involved connected walking routes, utilities and river operations, beyond clearing individual paths. [2]
