NPS’s March 4, 2026 notice scheduled Green River Ferry’s return for March 5 after flood damage interrupted the Mammoth Cave crossing. Repairs included navigational cables, support towers and a dislodged 15.5-ton anchor. [1]

The project record marks repairs completed in February. The closure also accommodated the vessel’s five-year Coast Guard inspection, sandblasting and repainting, while park staff replaced its generator and engine. [2]

The river divides cave-tour services from northern trails and camping, with no bridge inside the park. NPS’s route guide identifies Brownsville as the alternative crossing; high or low water can still interrupt ferry operations. [3]
