NCHS’s September 9 report estimated 13.8 million health-center visits by adults with type 2 diabetes in 2024—not unique patients. Its rate of 52.7 per 1,000 uses the civilian noninstitutionalized adult population (95% confidence interval: 29.4–94.3). Medication analysis excluded 22 centers with entirely missing medication data; documented prescriptions do not establish dispensing, use or treatment success. [1]

The data dictionary traces electronic-record collection to 2021. It prohibits patient-level estimates from patient identifiers. In 2024, 107 of 384 centers submitted records. Weighting accounts for sampling and nonresponse; analysts must exclude centers missing entire variables and adjust weights again. Encounters therefore require different interpretation from a count of people receiving effective care. [2]
