UNICEF launched its 2026 Humanitarian Action for Children appeal on December 10, 2025, requesting $7.66 billion. The agency said the plan aimed to assist 73 million children across 133 countries and territories, including 37 million girls and more than 9 million children with disabilities. [1]
The request followed a year of severe financing shortfalls. UNICEF reported that a 72% funding gap in its 2025 nutrition work had forced reductions in 20 priority countries, cutting planned reach from more than 42 million to over 27 million women and children. It also identified a $745 million education funding shortfall. [1]
The planned reach was smaller than the wider need: UNICEF estimated that more than 200 million children would require humanitarian assistance in 2026. Alongside funding, it urged governments and donors to support local response systems and remove obstacles to humanitarian access. These were appeal targets and agency assessments at launch, rather than a record of aid already delivered. [1]
