The European Commission handed Armenia a visa-liberalisation action plan November 5, 2025. It set requirements for a future waiver, rather than granting visa-free travel at the handover. [1]

Reforms covered document security, border management, public order and fundamental rights, with regular assessments of implementation. Armenia already had visa facilitation dating from January 2014. The new process sought a different result: removing the advance visa requirement for eligible short visits. [1]

A later Commission regional overview explains how these dialogues test more than legislation. Benchmarks cover policy frameworks and effective, sustainable implementation, monitored through reports and meetings with partner countries. Adoption on paper is only part of the assessment, rather than the finish line for travel access. [2]

Its visa-policy overview distinguishes facilitation—simpler fees or paperwork—from exemption from a visa application. Neither grants unlimited residence: Schengen short stays cover up to ninety days in a 180-day period; longer stays follow national procedures. [3]

Later guidance, checked November 6, 2026, lists €35 for Armenian applicants and €90 for adults generally, plus possible service-centre charges. It advises applying six months to fifteen days before travel; normal fifteen-day processing may reach forty-five days. Travellers should confirm requirements with the destination’s consulate. [4]
