Brazil’s electoral court says President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won the October 25 runoff, securing a fourth nonconsecutive term. It reported 64,256,232 votes for Lula, or 51.79% of valid votes, and 59,826,041 votes, or 48.21%, for Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. [1]
The result reversed the first-round order. Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies reported Bolsonaro led on October 4 with 47.03% of valid votes to Lula’s 45.16%. It said this was the first time a presidential candidate who placed second in the first round won the runoff. [2]
The electoral court said about 128.2 million people participated and roughly 19.2% of eligible voters abstained. [1]
A Supreme Court justice extended voting to 7 p.m. Brasília time only at stations still operating at 5 p.m. The electoral court said counting procedures were temporarily suspended. [3]
On October 27, the court reported 34,393 votes recorded after 5 p.m. It said closing procedures continue after 5 and voters already in line can vote. A late timestamp alone does not prove an improper vote. [3]
